Expert Profile


Ruhaya Hussin is an Associate Professor of Psychology, specialising in Industrial and Organisational Psychology at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and has a wealth of experience in both academia and practise. Her journey began as a counsellor at the Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) before moving into academia and holding positions at the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

Ruhaya has made significant contributions to her field and has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals locally and abroad, as well as book chapters published by IIUM Press, USIM, UUM, UiTM and UMS. She is also co-author of the highly acclaimed book, Teori Kaunseling dan Psikoterapi, which received the Highest Royalty Award (Malay Book Category) and Best-Selling Award from USIM in 2015. She is a reviewer for various journals and has presented her work at national and international conferences, including in Thailand, Indonesia and New Zealand.

Her research is characterised by an interdisciplinary approach in which she collaborates with experts from various fields such as education, hotel and tourism management, health sciences, dentistry and information technology from other universities. Ruhaya has received several research grants from the university and industry to conduct psychological research, particularly in the field of psychology. Her efforts have also led to the development of several copyrighted training modules for staff and students. As a certified HRDF trainer, she leads workshops for employees and students that focus on attitudes and behaviour, coping strategies, and well-being.

Ruhaya is a member of the Malaysian Psychological Association (Member), Malaysian Counselling Association (Life Member), Malaysia Consumer Association and New Zealand Positive Psychology Association, among others.
