Expert Profile


Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syakir Amir Ab. Rahman serves at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED). His academic and professional expertise lies in Tourism Planning and Development, Urban and Regional Planning, with a strong commitment to integrating sustainable and inclusive approaches in planning practice. He has held several key academic leadership roles, including Deputy Dean of Student Development and Community Engagement, Deputy Director of Alumni Relations Division, Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, and Academic Advisor. Through these roles, he has contributed significantly to academic governance, student empowerment, and industry engagement. Dr. Syakir Amir has led and collaborated on various government and industry funded research projects related to tourism planning, indigenous tourism, cultural heritage, community-based tourism, smart tourism, and sustainable development. His supervision has produced PhD and Master’s (research and taught course) graduates, advancing scholarship and producing professionals who now serve in academia, government, and industry. An active scholar, Dr. Syakir Amir has published extensively in indexed journals, gaining a strong citation record, and he contributes regularly to social writings in Berita Harian, Utusan, and Kosmo. He is also the author of the book “Kesejahteraan Sosial dan Inovasi – Senario dan Praktis.” Professionally, he is a Graduate Member of the Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP), a registered member of Board of Town Planning Malaysia, and a member of International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP).
